What is ASCA?
The Australian School Canteen Association (ASCA) is a non-profit buying and consultancy group, with the fundamental objective of increasing school canteen profits, by negotiating favourable discounts from companies supplying school canteens.

ASCA has been working with Australian schools for nearly 30 years. Originating in Vic in 1979 with just 16 Schools, we now have more than 500 members across the East Coast of Australia making ASCA the largest school canteen buying organisation in Australia, with millions of dollars in buying power.

ASCA has over 444 member schools in Victoria. In 2003 we expanded into NSW and in 2004 we went into the ACT, increasing our membership base by an additional 70+ schools. Our membership in these states is now growing rapidly.

In January 2005, ASCA started operating in Queensland. Today we have over 70 member schools throughout Qld, with new schools joining weekly.

ASCA is managed by a voluntary board of Principals and retired Principals whose experience in the primary and secondary sector in Government, Catholic and Independent schools, lends a wealth of knowledge. We are able to offer our member schools beneficial discounts and via the Consultants employed in each state. We also offer a range of benefits to assist schools operate their canteens on a more efficient, viable and profitable basis.

How does ASCA operate?
ASCA helps school canteens operate profitably by negotiating with suppliers to obtain discounts on the cost of goods sold in canteens. These prices are considerably lower than the prices charged to individual non-member schools, as discounts of between 20-40% off normal wholesale prices are not unusual. In return for these discounts ASCA grants the company "preferred supplier status" for periods ranging from 12 months to several years. Members must exclusively use the preferred suppliers if their canteen sells the type of products that the preferred supplier supplies.

Who can be a member?
Membership, at modest cost, is only open to schools that run their own canteens and have not leased their canteens to private operators. The group aims to make it easier for schools to run their own canteens. There are many great reasons to Join ASCA.
