ASCA is the only school based body in Australia which has a prime purpose in improving financial outcomes for school canteens.
Our mission is to assist schools operate their canteen in an effective, viable and profitable manner; and through favourable prices negotiated from preferred suppliers, lower the purchase price of goods. The larger we can make the ASCA buying group, the better our buying power and the greater the benefit will be to the canteens in our member schools.
Canteen profits and profitability is always a major priority at ASCA and the favourable pricing we negotiate with preferred suppliers, enable us to assist schools increase their canteen profits. Suppliers are chosen as an ASCA Preferred Supplier, based on selection criteria which is founded on best pricing as well assessing the supplier ability to effectively deliver to members schools and their ability to deal with, and understand, school canteen requirements. We're proud of our successes in delivering these objectives to schools and we will strive to continue to deliver great results for our members.
We recognise the shift towards a healthier menu in Vic and mandated health food policies in NSW and Qld, has created additional challenges for school canteens. ASCA has been represented in steering committees and working parties involved in the development of healthy eating policies. We have used the learnings gained from these bodies to develop practical strategies and tools to assist schools effectively transition to healthier menus with success and with minimum impact on the canteens profitability. ASCA has developed Workshops, Case Studies and proven Menu Combinations to assist schools as has also implemented `green` product trials as well as lobbied supplier to expand their `green` product offering . These workshops and findings are available to all members.
ASCA employs two managers to run the organisation’s administration and development, who are supported by a team of experienced business consultants in each state. We work closely with member schools and suppliers and when requested, assist our members ensure the transition to healthy menus is as painless and as effective as possible, and most importantly, to ensure the impact on their bottom line is as small as possible.
With the introduction of healthy eating in schools, we have expanded our services from products and pricing to also include information and training. We now offer our members a variety of resources to assist canteens adjust to the changes as smoothly as possible, but our Primary focus is still maximising supplier discounts for schools.
